The Commonwealth War Cemetery at St Charles De Percy  ..

Just a few miles from our gites is the tranquil setting of the last resting place of some of the British soldiers that gave there lives to liberate St Martin Des Bescaes on 30th July 1944.

Like all war graves it is maintained to the highest standard, and is a place of reflection.

 

It holds the remains of more than 800 men, several unknown, including the commander of the coldstream guards who took the hill on which our house stands on 30th July 1944, only to be killed himself a few days later.

The graves are all well tended, and are a sobering thought when  you read the names and ages of these young men.
